Log

Diverted a large chunk of the band's advertising budget to a treasure hunt in the Born to Be Wild album cover and music video, leading to .025 Bitcoin, and showed the wallet as an xpub.

Congratulated the group that solved Born to Be Wild under its write-up, then explained the gold frames, the giant step and the clue that pointed the vault at Morse.

Wove a story into the single Glimmer that leads to .031777 Bitcoin, a second hunt that picks up where the first one left off.

Who this is

A band. Three people, going by their own megathread: "I'm 1/3 of Smith, Lyle & Moore". They put out singles. Two of them came with a wallet attached.

For Born to Be Wild the page said it straight. A large chunk of the ad budget, "for an indie band", went into a journey to the moon. So no ads. Just 0.025 BTC and a chain of riddles. For Glimmer, a year later, 0.031777 BTC and a journey across the sea.

Why a band, of all things?

Because the songs are the puzzle. The first clue of the moon hunt hides in the album cover. A Morse word hides in the guitar of an alternative mix. The final password comes after an unreleased song. You can't solve it without listening. Isn't that the whole point of an ad? Pretty clever, honestly.

Good sports about losing the coins

A group posted the Born to Be Wild solution. The band showed up in the comments: "Way to go you guys!!". Then they filled in what the winners had only guessed. The Apollo plaques behind "all man kind". The leap that had to become a step. The painter behind Morse code. No sulking. Just notes from the people who built it.
