A famous naMe, upside down
May 11, 2019. The first run ended at block 77, and its last block had another mistake in it. House rule: a failed block makes the next one 77 mBTC. So the second run opens big.
The question is four words long. "A rather famous naMe." Someone asked right away whether the capital M was on purpose. "It is." The format is [solution] TOMI [TOMI] [link], and the link is the whole block 76 key of the first run. The post adds the first digits of three MD5 hashes: 33c for the full string, 4 for the answer, e for the TOMI field.
Players threw everything at it. Pokémon, Canadian MPs, Dorian Nakamoto, the royal family. Nothing.
Three hints and a band
On day two the author wrote: "Uses method of a recent previous block." Which one? "One in the ten between 67 and 76." Then, late on May 13, the second hint just said "block 69".
Block 69 of the first run was "Upside down". Its answer was WM. Read the M in naMe upside down and you get W. Say W out loud. Double U. Two U's. U2.
The claim confirmed at 23:25:35 UTC, 24 minutes after the hint. Ten minutes later u/Randomiser posted the string: U2 TOMI upside down and the block 76 key. They'd been trying names that start with W. Hard to blame them. A band was not on anybody's list.
The author had one more fun fact. U2 shrinks to a single letter, W, and W has an upside down partner, M. Cute.
