change to
July 22, 2019. The last big 77 mBTC block. "Maybe of medium difficulty." The question is two words, change to. Format [solution] TOMI [TOMI], digits f8e. The author planned to shut down soon after, so no hints and no questions.
That didn't last. "Started up again", and with it the digits for the solution alone, 1d. Then the one hint: change the question to from change to. On August 3 somebody asked if it's "to" or "two". The answer was one word. to.
The guess that matched twice
u/martypyouknowme tried format TOMI before TOMI. The full MD5 starts with f8e. The MD5 of format alone starts with 1d. Both checksums pass. The address doesn't. "Got excited when I saw the MD5 hash of f8e. But no cigar." Brutal.
Seven years later
Then nothing. For seven years the 77 mBTC sat there. The claim finally confirmed at 09:31:23 UTC on August 17, 2026. "Seven years later, congratulations to the solver", wrote u/JDScreesh a few days after.
Who solved it? How? Nobody has said. The record keeps the question, the hints and both checksums, and its status is claimed. The coins moved, the answer didn't. Got an idea?
