The Reddit post was removed, so the question survives in the author's Wattpad list: "Year of first Internet scam".

The answer comes from a story in the Book of Swindles, 1604, and the field is the book's title. Someone brute forced the three character link from block 42 and claimed this one three days before block 42 fell. The author thanked them for it. That's why links grew to seven characters.
